HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN TOUCHSTONES?
It’s pretty simple! Volunteer.
If you’re a UVU student and any of the positions below interest you, please fill out the form at the bottom of this page.
READER—Attend our Reading Night and/or Selection Night! Right now, Reading and Selection nights are set for October 9 and 10, 2026. On Reading Night, each submitted piece of prose or poetry is read three times, and readers vote on its inclusion in the journal. On Selection Night, volunteer staff and masthead discuss which pieces they feel would be a good fit for the journal.
EDITOR—Edit prose or poetry! Immediately after Selection Night, editing begins. Touchstones editors meet at least twice with their assigned author to discuss larger edits to content and structure and smaller edits to punctuation and grammar.
TYPESETTER—Format the journal to make it print-ready! Working with Adobe InDesign, typesetters prepare the journal for printing, making sure images and text are reader-friendly. Experience with InDesign is not required to typeset with us; we’ll train you! Typesetting is an extremely useful and marketable skill.
All contributors to the journal are credited by name and can receive a free copy at MyWord at the end of the semester.
You are not obligated to fulfill those roles just because you express interest; this just gives us an idea of what people are interested in and allows us to notify you of upcoming events via Microsoft Teams.
There is no limit to how much or how little you can participate! We welcome those who have only a little time, and you are always invited to participate in every step of the process!
