Art is storytelling. A lyrical dance is a camera angle, a photograph, a six-word phrase. Rustic paintings reflect an ancient history on stones.
Art is how we tell our stories. Art wakes up the senses. Art changes our perspective, it evokes, it invokes. It places us in a different state of being. Its effect is similar to crossover sensations at a concert: watching the visual performance of the artists while hearing the melody and lyrics. It can be transcending. Same goes for the fusion of image and text.
As an editor, I see that both art and literature not only complement each other but reflect the same powerful deep-seated passion which resides in students of Art and English. Two seemingly different voices weaved together as one voice. We believe that a creative and fine literary journal wouldn’t be complete without showcasing art forms of all kinds. Touchstones isn’t complete without the strong beat of UVU artists. And simply, creations of art and writing paired together allows livelier engagement of the body and the brain.
We recognize as an editing staff that art matters to all types of creators, and we want to produce a journal of art and literature that represents the whole unity of UVU’s student body.
This is a call out to all UVU art students to submit their creations. Let your work be shared, your perspective represented.
Deadline for art submissions is 8 October 2015
